Will your decals work for my walls?

Jan 20, 2021
The short answer is yes - we have decals to suit everybody; the important thing is knowing if you have a wall that requires some extra stickiness, or not. (Don't worry, we'll help you decide!) Our decals come in two flavours - standard and high tack. I'll explain a little bit about them.

Standard Fabric Decals

Most of our customers choose these: they work brilliantly on most walls. They use a very fine fabric, which is visible when you look closely, but from a distance this gives a lovely, soft matt finish. They are completely opaque, which means they're great for use over darker or more vibrant colours. They are easy to remove and reapply.

High Tack Fabric Decals

Brilliant for harder to stick to surfaces, including more heavily textured walls and stain resistant paints. They are the same fabric as our standard decals, but a little thinner and about 30% tackier, which means they can be a bit fiddly to apply. For large decals made in high tack we recommend you have a second pair of hands to help. They are still repositionable and reusable, but the extra stickiness means you will need to take more care with intricate shapes etc.

So, which should I buy?

There are two things that really decide whether your walls need more stick. These are texture and paint type.

Walls with light texture and standard emulsion paint are the absolute best for decals. The more texture you have on the wall, and the more 'non-stick' your paint type, the more likely you are to need extra sticky. The big thing to watch out for is the term "stain-resistant" as this indicates that the paint has been purposely formulated to resist anything sticking to it.

Harder to stick to paint types include:
  • Behr: Marquee
  • Dulux: Wash and Wear / Easycare
  • Benjamin Moore: Regal
  • Sherwin Williams: Duration
  • ECOS: Air Purifying Paints

What do you mean by heavy texture?

This is exactly the sort of textured wall that we would recommend high tack for. You can see that the lumpy bumpy bits will mean that less of the decal will be able to touch the wall, and therefore sticking to it is more difficult.
